DEAR PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:

It is essential to consider the effective and efficient use of our country’s financial resources. The Department of Defense has wasted $125 billion in its business operations, according to a report issued in 2015 and revealed only recently. The Pentagon has a $580 billion budget—a budget more than double that of the next biggest spender, China.

American taxpayers want their country to use both fiscal and military restraint. When all is said and done, the U.S. will have spent $6 trillion on wars in the Middle East and taking care of our wounded soldiers. This outlay helped cause our recession and harmed many of the Arabs we sought to help.

Please fund infrastructure improvements, create jobs and take care of our veterans who served rather than continue to fund a bloated inefficient military.

A recently uncovered report from the Department of Defense exposed $125 billion in waste, around one-quarter of the defense budget. The report identified a clear path to save this excess in a five-year period without requiring any lay-offs of civil servants or military personnel. Waste must not continue to go unchecked, and it is absolutely necessary that our country spend its financial resources where they matter most—in developing social projects for our people, fixing aging infrastructure, and providing jobs.
